The Punta Ala Sailing Center’s season of events officially kicked off today with the first day of the F18 National Regatta-the third of five events on the 2025 calendar, valid for the national class ranking.
The beach at PuntAla Camp & Resort, the event’s logistics base, welcomed 22 crews ready to do battle on the race course in the beautiful scenery of the Gulf of Follonica.
At 12 noon, with the Delta flag hoisted, the sea lit up with colorful sails and expectation.
The first race started with wind from 270°, stable intensity between 8 and 10 knots, and a technical race course with a long, clean upwind. Great start, with perfect conditions for spectacular racing.
But the wind changed mood: the breeze gradually dropped, dropping to 4 knots on the committee boat. The second race was started, but the boats-after completing the upwind and starting the downwind-struggled to get going again. At that point, the Committee decided to stop racing and close the day with only one race completed.
